The target was to collect 750 units of blood and the people of the Eastern Cape made this possible with 794 units of blood donated in one day. The normal daily target for the province is 300 units which mean that 265% of target was achieved.

In addition to the awesome doughnuts and extensive radio coverage from Algoa FM, a local TV soap celebrity who is part of the SANBS Ambassador Programme visited Port Elizabeth. Reynardt Hugo who plays Dr Tertius in Binnelanders assisted donors on the day and he even donated a pint of blood.

Algoa FM Bloodline Day is the one day in the year when the Eastern Cape Zone collects the most units of blood. It is a big stretch for staff to service all the eager blood donors with high volumes of people coming through the doors at once. It has become standard practice to call in the help of committee members and non-frontline staff members to assist with customer service on the day. All the extra helpers in the form of a celebrity, committee members and other staff made the day a huge success.
