| | Why am I a SANBS Ambassador? "To become my own personal hero! By being involved in creating awareness, I will not be saving one life but many! " Gert van Schalkwyk’s CV shows an impressive array of experience and qualifications that spans industries. Having both a Business and Acting degree, he quickly set forth exploring the world of entertainment. First, as a model, he was the Fashion Face of Africa for FTV and went huge in 2005, appearing in a number of high profile commercials in the lead role. Ads for MTN, Wimpy, Klippies and Cola (for which he was the face of the brand) saw him gracing South African screens whereas Utterly Butterly and Galaxy Chocolates saw his face appearing on American and British screens respectively. He has choreographed a number of live events such as the Goldwell Hair Show and Mr. & Miss Pro Arte. His stage and theatre experience includes ‘Wit leuns and Swart dade’, Die drie van der Walts’ (directed by EGOLI’s own Bromley Cawood), ‘Blomme en bye’ as well as ‘Ek…?’. His sojourn into the modeling world was to be expected as he scooped the Mr. TUT (Pretoria Technicon) award and appeared as a contestant in the Guess Global Model Search. Showing there is more to him, he also received the Mr. Personality Award from Pretoria Technicon. 2009 sees his debuts on EGOLI screens as Jacques, Vuyatela’s ladies man pilot who quickly sets the screens alight as he plays up to his playboy status. Viewers can also see Gert as the lead in the upcoming film “Everything but the sky” which will be showcased at Cinema Nouveau Theatres in March.
